second problem with explorer:
referring to core-12618:
I had created several "New folders" via running 7zip and trying to create an own folder.
Now in explorer there are a lot of "new folder 1 ... 5". So far okay. But these folders are NOT shown on the left side of explorer, means it does not actualize the left side with the subfolders.

Fritz Mueller commented on CORE-12619:
--------------------------------------

After 10 months I enter this forum again. I tested 0.4.6 and it seems that it actualizes the left side now, but I noticed several bugs with explorer within 10 minutes that it seems it does not make a sense to report them all separately.

At 0.46 I had problems to move files from one folder by "drag and drop", there was an option "copy" but none "paste", at a 0.4.8 beta the explorer exited when I tried to create a subfolder anywhere at "documents and settings" at the right side. Means: Some simple tests showed me that nobody seems to have a look at explorer.

For a reason I do not know installation folders ("inf") where in downloads section etc (I do not remember the program).

So it seems that not much has changed in the last 10 months.

Several offered installations did not work as expected etc. So actually it makes no sense for me to make a "real" test.

I beg your pardon.

No, not much changed because we have only one person reporting problems properly. If you are bored to report a problem properly, don't expect it to get fixed on its own.

Fritz Mueller commented on CORE-12619:
--------------------------------------

OK, here is a detailled report:

Virtual Box 5.2.0, reactos-bootcd-0.4.8-dev-71-ga2ed758-x86-gcc-lin-rel.iso as installation medium.
The virtual machine is an 20 GB IDE HD, primary master (my real computer a 256 GB SSD with Win10 and 8 GB RAM)
1024 MB RAM, 64 MB graphics card, Audio: ICH AC97, network: NAT Pcnet-FAST III (Am79C973),
USB 2 controller.
I just reinstalled it (in english instead of german).
I deleted old partition and reinstalled ReactOS with a new bootloader. Removed ISO and rebooted.
Ran setup with typical settings, installed Wine Gecko, rebooted, driver "System device"
installation failed, driver "Multimedia audio device" installation also failed.
Explorer has a folder "C:\Documents and Settings\My Documents". Folder is empty.

Starting ROS Applications Manager: AC97 Driver for VirtualBox tries to extract to "C:\...\My Documents\RAPPS Downloads\"
The result are the folders "inf" and "system32" in "C:\...\RAPPS Downloads\ and ac97_vbox...7z".

First problem:
I click on folder C:\...\Administrator\My Documents and then on the right side right mouse create folder "test". At the left side
a folder with cryptic symbols "´`( a sqare, a plus and 3 squares" appears. After some clicking it has the name "test".
I repeated the same to create "test1" Nothing happens in the right window and in the left window.
I wait for two minutes - nothing happens. After two minutes I click on "My computer" and then on "My Documents".
On the left side I see "RAPPS Downloads with subfolders and test" - on the right side of "My documents" I see
"New Folder, RAPPS Downloads and test". So actualization is not correct. First it did not offer me "New folder" and a chance
to rename it at once, now it is still not shown on the left side! Even clicking on the +- sign in front of "My Documents"
actualizes. The only thing that helped (no F5) was closing and restarting Explorer.

Second problem:

I click on C:\....My Documents\RAPPS Downloads" - inf folder on the right side - right mouse - "Cut" - then on "...\My Documents\test" - right side - right mouse - paste

the inf folder is at ...\test\inf as expected, but at "RAPPS Downloads" the inf folder still exists, but is empty.
I started command prompt, went to C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\My Documents\RAPPS Downloads", dir command showed me the inf folder and cd inf and dir
showed me "." and ".." as expected. (I wrote the FreeDOS help in german, believe me, I know the commands).
So the "cut" - "paste" command does not delete the folder "inf".
I moved the folder "system32" which has the subfolder "drivers" to "test2" (same way, right mouse, cut - paste) and checked with command prompt.
The job was done, Explorer did not actualize, but: command showed me that the folders in the old folder "RAPPS Downloads" still exist.

Third problem:

I tried to delete ...RAPS Downloads\inf folder by right mouseclick.
Interestingly I get the message: Are you sure you want to delete "C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\My Documents\RAPPS Downloads\inf? YES/NO
I repeated it two or three times and at the end I got the message "ROR_ACCESS_DENIED - Access is denied. So deleting also makes problems, maybe if
you are still in the folder in the command line.
Same with deleting "system32". It requires a restart of Explorer till the folder disappears in Explorer.

I am sure I found some more problems, but I only will search for them if you confirm that the reported problems exist.

Fritz Mueller commented on CORE-12619:
--------------------------------------

Just an additional information:

FIRST

there seem to be basic problems with problems one till three mentioned above:

In cmd mode I often get messages like: "ERROR_ACCESS_DENIED" when playing in explorer (e.g. deleting files, moving folders). Chkdskx then reports the following messages:

The type of file system is FAT32

Starting Check/Repair pass

Free Cluster summary wrong (1345555 vs really 1106398)

Auto correcting

Starting verification pass

Leaving file system unchanged

\??\C:: 1429 files, 239158/1345556 clusters

SECOND:

In cmd line "md testxx" and "rd testxx" works,

but "md testyy" "cd testyy" and "md testyy" (create subfolder with same name) and "c:\" (going back to root) and "rd testyy" gives the correct message "ERROR_DIR_NOT_EMPTY" The directory is not empty, that is okay, but "rd /?" tells me that there are no other options to delete a whole directory as it is possible with other OSes.

means: it is not possible to delete folders with a subfolder in command line, so not working correct in explorer is not astonishing.

C:\ "del testyy" asks for are you sure to delete and if you confirm with "yes" it exits without an error message - but leaves C:\testyy unchanged.

So if the command line does not work correct or forgets to offer options it is not astonishing if explorer has problems too.

Please inform me when there is a solution.

I had created several "New folders" via running 7zip and trying to create an own folder.
Now in explorer there are a lot of "new folder 1 ... 5". So far okay. But these folders are NOT shown on the left side of explorer, means it does not actualize the left side with the subfolders whereas the right side is actualized.

cagey45 commented on CORE-12619:
--------------------------------

The squares and squiggles come from renaming a folder.  If the new folder is left as "New Folder" it displays properly.  Renaming "program files" does the same thing.  Once the bad name is shown, creating new folders don't show in the tree view at all.  F5 does nothing to the tree view. (0.4.8-dev-233-gdcb4c91a)

All looks normal if a new window is opened. The folders created after the bad name show.

The log shows something about a null pointer. [^explorer_createfolder_c_aaa.log][^explorer_rename_programfiles.log]

Fritz Mueller commented on CORE-12619:
--------------------------------------

I just ran the most actual Beta today and noticed that all reported problems still exist:

a) creating a folder creates squares on the left side (see video), often crashes when clicking on this squares,

b) moving folders with files inside moves the files and folders, but the folders are not deleted in the old folder,

c) often crashes when working in explorer.

So it seems for me that nothing has changed till now.

I donated several hundred Euros to the german section for developing in the last years, but anyhow I have the feeling that this money is wasted, as the reported bugs can be found within two minutes.

Fritz Mueller edited comment on CORE-12619 at 5/10/18 2:38 PM:
---------------------------------------------------------------

the problems reported at 2018-01-13 are still existing ( a) creating squares b) moving folders. c): not tested) TESTED with 0.4.8 and 0.4.9-20180510.

Additional I noticed that when I create a second folder e.g. C:\TEST01 and then C:\TEST02 the squares for C:\TEST01 remain but there is nothing shown at the left side of the explorer. It is necessary to close and restart explorer.

I ran additional tests with Total Commander: There seem to be NO problems.
